Clifton Beach…

Passed down through generations of the Clarke family, this beachfront land now belongs to Nikki Clarke Bassett and Shaun Clarke, the children of the late Fred and Rosemary Clarke of Clifton Estate. The land was previously used as a coconut plantation for over 100 years, and the loss of its coconuts was due to Lethal Yellows disease over the last 20 years, which also decimated much of the coconut palms across the island.

The beach from Nelson’s Spring to Cades Bay is an active nesting area for the endangered Leatherback and Hawksbill turtles from around April to November and is monitored regularly by the Nevis Turtle Group (NTG).

In St. Kitts and Nevis, it is illegal to catch, sell, purchase, or possess sea turtles (or any part of them) between March 1st and October 1st of every year. The Fisheries Regulations (2002) prohibit disturbing nesting turtles, their nests, or taking eggs at any time of the year. Violators risk fines of up to EC$5,000 with penalties enforced under the Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Resources Act (2017).

Dogs present a significant threat to nesting sea turtles, as such please note that unleashed dogs will not be permitted to the bar, and bonfires are also not permitted.
