About Us…

Chef Ajuma was born in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa, and raised in Nairobi, its capital city. Her father, like President Obama, hails from the Luo ethnic group of western Kenya, on the shores of Lake Victoria. Her mother, born in New York City, is a first generation American of Croatian/Austrian heritage, who emigrated to Kenya in 1989.

Ajuma has a strong connection to Nevis, where she visited her grandparents almost every year from the time she was born until their deaths in 2010. Ajuma moved to Nevis in 2018 and continues to be inspired by the island’s natural and cultural beauty. Having a multi-cultural background, Ajuma enjoys the challenge of tasting and cooking food from different countries and cultures.

After training at Alain Ducasse’s ‘Ecole de Cuisine’ in Paris, her culinary adventures have led her to cook in kitchens at the Hôtel du Palais (Biarritz, France), Grandchamps and Café Rue Dix (Brooklyn, USA), Majlis Resort (Manda Island, Kenya) and several establishments in Nevis.

Métisse was established in Nevis 2019, and is a family owned and operated business.
